So you have a small business. Everybody tells you that you need a website, you need to tweet, maybe post on Instagram. You think you can do it yourself. You’ve got email; you’re on Facebook. How hard can it be? You’ve even found some websites that let you build your own site with their “easy to use” templates that allow you to have a professional looking website ”in minutes,” just drag and drop your images and content, hit publish and you’re done, right?
Not so fast.
Ten hours later, you can’t get your image to resize, another image is stuck on top of something else, and when you hit preview, half your text is a different color. Wait a second. You remember that your brother-in-law’s cousin’s best friend’s nephew is a “web guy.” He’ll help you for cheap. Problem solved, right? Wrong.
Why a “Web Guy” Isn’t Enough
Look, I don’t know your brother-in-law’s cousin’s best friend’s nephew. He could be the greatest guy on the planet. He might even know HTML and/or some other type of internet code. But does he really know what SEO, PPC, ROI, SEM, CPA, H1 and a whole bunch of other digital marketing jargon means? What about how to make sure that search engines like Google and Bing can see your website so your customers can find you? Is he also a top notch designer? How are his copywriting skills? Fast forward to a week or a month later and you may end up with something that either looks like it was designed in the 90’s, and is all but invisible to search engines.
It’s extremely rare that you’re going to find someone who knows how to do everything it takes to build a professional website that looks good, and that’s easy for your customers to find when they’re searching for the products or services your business provides. It’s also why you need to hire a digital marketing company to develop your website.
Time is Money
You might be worried that it’s too expensive to hire a company to design a website for your small business, but actually, it doesn’t have to be. Plus it frees your time up to actually focus on your business instead of worrying about how to develop and design a website. In addition, a reputable digital marketing company works with people who are experts in search engine optimization. Professional web developers know how to make sure Google and Bing can find your website and should have expert designers and copywriters on staff as well.
When you turn to the professionals to develop your small business’ website, you won’t have to waste hours or days in frustration, only to have nothing to show for it and no new business generated from all your efforts.
Your buddies are right, you do need a website for your small business. But don’t panic. Don’t call your brother-in-law’s cousin’s best friend’s nephew. Don’t go online and find a template. Call a professional instead.
